Summer Abroad in Singapore: Fifteen Pakistani Students Awarded Sponsorship to Attend NUS Summer Programme 2015

Karachi : 15 Pakistani students have been selected to attend the prestigious summer programme at the National University of Singapore (NUS) from July 5 – July 18, 2015. The programme is completely sponsored by Sajjad Foundation, Habib University, Al-Karam Textile Mills Limited, Hilton Pharma Ltd. and BankIslami Pakistan Limited, and is part of their commitment to provide high quality international experience to Pakistani students.

“Globalization has opened the world and the marketplace is increasingly demanding workers with diverse, multicultural skills,” said Shahbaz Yasin Malik, CEO of Hilton Pharma Ltd. “Pakistani students need to be ready to compete in it successfully.”

Over four hundred students from around 50 colleges and universities across Pakistan applied for the programme. “It was inspiring to read applications from such accomplished and diverse group of students, said Sadaf Latafat, Program Manager at Habib University, who coordinated the application and selection process. “For many of these students, such opportunities are rare and can be a life-altering experience.”

The compact 2-week programme hosts undergraduate students from universities around the world and focuses on entrepreneurship and economic development in Singapore. Participants come from places as varied as New Zealand, Australia, China, Columbia, UK, India, and Pakistan, interact with locals and experience the Singaporean culture. They learn how public policies are formed and gain insights on business practices in the region.

“The opportunity to spend a summer in Singapore will enrich their lives, expose them to alternate perspectives, and better prepare them for leadership roles in Pakistan.” said Ali Hussain, Chairman of the Singapore-based philanthropic organization, Sajjad Foundation.

Study Abroad programs, such as the NUS Summer programme, provide unique learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom and prepare students for academic and professional work in today’s dynamic global economy. “Our students, more than ever, need to experience an international education,” stated Fawad Anwar, CEO of Al-Karam Textile Mills. “It is one of the best ways to learn about cultures and practices of different societies, and it inculcates tolerance and appreciation of diversity.”

The participating students from Pakistan are from geographically diverse areas such as Karachi, Lahore, Mardan, Sukkur, Peshawar and Islamabad. The come from different institutions in the country including Lahore University of Management Sciences, Institute of Business Management, Aga Khan University, Habib University, National University of Sciences & Technology, Institute of Management Sciences, Peshawar etc.

For many of these selected Pakistani students, it is the first time outside their country.

“We believe strongly that financial circumstances shouldn’t hinder talented student in our country from gaining an experience abroad,” said Mr. Hasan Bilgrami, CEO of BankIslami Pakistan Ltd. “We, along with other beneficiaries, are very excited to assist these bright students in their educational journey.”

LG, Google agree to promote OLED TV

Karachi, 06 July 2015 - LG Electronics and Google agreed to launch a joint marketing campaign to promote organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TVs.

LG said it will expand global sales of its OLED TVs, and build its brand by targeting high-end global consumers. It said it aims at securing 100 million customers for the premium TVs, without giving a timetable for the target.

LG will use Google’s various tools such as its search engine and video-sharing platform YouTube in order to raise market awareness of the OLED products.

“We will have potential customers realize the true value of premium TV products,” said LG Electronics Vice President Kim Ki-wan.

LG expects to offer a different business model for its OLED TVs by creating a synergy effect with Google’s innovative brand image.

“Google has been helping marketers have efficient communication with their consumers through advertisements products and marketing,” said John Lee, country director of Google Korea. “We will make further efforts to work with global companies like LG to help them promote their products globally through our digital platform.” Lee added.

LG Electronics Launches Its First Business Innovation Center

The new regional B2B showroom displays cutting-edge technology products and solutions across different market verticals

Karachi, July 14, 2015 – LG Electronics, global leader of digital signage solutions and commercial TVs, launched today its first regional B2B showroom, the LG Business Innovation Center. Located in Shatha Tower Dubai, the center was launched in the presence of Mr. Kevin Cha, President, Middle East & Africa Region, LG Electronics.

Designed to showcase the vast array of LG’s leading line of Business-to-Business (B2B) products and solutions, the opening forms part of the company’s on-going commitment to provide innovative vertical business solutions to customers across the region.

Targeted at government and business partners, the showroom has allocated sections that correspond to LG’s key vertical markets including; hospitality, quick service restaurant (QSR), transportation, education, retail, security and corporate. The showroom design sets the scene for customers to enjoy an interactive hands-on experience and also assistance from LG business experts in each vertical in the showroom.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Kevin Cha, President, Middle East & Africa Region LG Electronics said: “We aim to create a seamless, personalized experience in the showroom. An experience that will leave a strong impact on our partners, and highlight our pioneering products and solutions that provide businesses with innovative and effective solutions, which will in turn improve communication with their audience. COCA-COLA SPREADING HAPPINESS at LABARD

Lahore- July 15, 2015 : To celebrate the essence of Ramadan,Coca-Cola Pakistan organized an exclusive Iftar at LABARD (Lahore Businessmen Association for Rehabilitation of Disabled) to share the blessings of this holy month with the disadvantaged of our society. The event was attended by MNA, Mr. Pervez Malik, Coca-Cola employees, students of LABARD’s vocational center and staff. This is the sixth year that Coca-Cola has conducted a Ramadan campaign which ties in beautifully with The Company’s philosophy of spreading happiness.
Distinctively decorated Coke Caravans were parked outside LABARD with a surprise element; The Coca-Cola Happiness Truck. The premise of the truck was to reinforce the charitable, festive and magical feel of Ramadan by spreading cheers of joy and glad tidings. The truck gave out gifts to all those who were present at the venue.

Speaking at the event Rizwan U. Khan, GM, Coca-Cola Pakistan & Afghanistan, stated, “We do not just sell beverages, we sell an outlook of optimism and positivity. Coca-Cola Ramadan Campaign embraces the notion of sharing. Together with partners like LABARD, we are trying to build a better future for generations to come.”

Present at the location, MNA Pervez Malik said “LABARD has established itself as a premier organization working for the rehabilitation and welfare of physically handicapped persons. We not only try to inculcate self-pride in them but also help them resurrect their lives by becoming productive members of our community”.

The Iftar was part of Coca-Cola’s unique Ramadan campaign that centers on the power of sharing. The campaign is not about uniting people around one single cause, but rather about inspiring them to take part in sharing, that collectively spread happiness in a big way.
