Ground Breaking of TCF COCA-COLA CAMPUS in Kasur

Karachi, December 15, 2015: Coca-Cola Pakistan and The Citizens Foundation held a ground-breaking ceremony for their new school campus in Kasur. Ground breaking was done by Ms. Kathryn Casson, Director, Public Affairs & Communications, The Coca-Cola Company, Middle East & North Africa, Business Unit. The ceremony was attended by TCF leadership team and Coca-Cola employees.

The TCF Coca-Cola Campus Kasur will be the second school established by The Coca Cola Company with TCF in Pakistan. A total of US$ 165,000will be invested to build the school premises and Coca-Cola will incur the operational cost for the first three years. The TCF Coca-Cola Campus is a collaborative partnership between TCF & Coca-Cola Pakistan that aims to provide quality education to children for as little as 10 cents a month.

While addressing the guests at the ceremony, Rizwan U. Khan, General Manager, The Coca-Cola Export Corporation, Pakistan and Afghanistan said “This school will empower generations to come and also serve as an example to other corporations to be sound corporate citizens by investing in the future of Pakistan. Coca-Cola believes in strengthening the communities where we operate, because our business will only be sustainable if the communities around us are prospering.”

“The Citizens Foundation believes that every child has the right to a quality education. Our vision is to use education as a means to removing barriers of class and privilege and creating agents of positive social change. Investments such as the TCF Coca Cola Campus serve as enduring examples of how businesses can help accomplish this vision.” said Zia Akhter Abbas, Vice President at The Citizens Foundation.

Ms. Casson further stated, “The Coca-Cola Company reiterates their commitment towards Pakistan as we see a bright future for the country. This school will further establish our position as a Company that is continuously striving to earn its social license.”

Coca-Cola partnered with TCF in 2011 and built a fully functional state-of-the-art school that provides quality education to 183 students. Coca-Cola has an extensive CSR Portfolio which focuses on environment, sustainable agriculture, water stewardship and women empowerment.

Pakistani shoppers to enjoy Visa’s ‘Impossible Deals’promotion at DSF 2016

Karachi, December 15, 2015 –Visa Inc. (NYSE:V), a global payments technology company, and official payments partner of the 21stDubai Shopping Festival (DSF) 2016, has launchedthe ‘Impossible Deals’ campaign that will offerVisa cardholdersfrom Pakistanvisiting Dubai during DSF with a number of impossible deals, representing discounts of up to 80% off on a range of electronics, travel, entertainment, luxury goods and even cars.

The campaign will run through the DSF monthfrom 1stJanuary 2016 to 1st February 2016 during whichone impossible deal will be unveiled everyday.After they have enrolled in the promotion, Visa cardholders will receive daily mobile/email alerts about the impossible deals which they can use while in Dubai.

As there are limited numbers of these impossible deals, customers will need to try to respond to these notifications as soon as possible to “win” the chance of buying these exciting items at almost throwaway prices. The ‘Impossible Deals’ will beavailableto participants on a first-come-first-served basis.

Stanford University’s Sarah Stein Greenberg visits Habib University for lecture on methodology of Design thinking

Karachi, Pakistan, December 18, 2015- The Office for Global Engagement at Habib University hosted a lecture by Sarah Stein Greenberg, Executive Director, d.school: Institute of Design at Stanford University at their campus in Karachi. The topic of the lecture was ‘Learning as a Designed Experience: Design Thinking at the Stanford d.school.’

Greenberg talked about the methodology of design thinking and also shared interesting stories of how using design thinking has allowed multidisciplinary teams of Stanford University students to have a real impact around the world. The talk also covered the d.school’s philosophy around designing learning experiences, and how that approach has fostered an educational environment that helps students become confident in their own creative abilities. Greenberg discussed modern teaching methods that, if implemented in Pakistan, can immensely nurture the young talent in the country.

Greenberg,an MBA from Stanford University and a BA in History from Oberlin College, has been traveling around the world to speak to and facilitate groups using design thinking. This year has taken her to Canada, the Philippines, South Africa, Ecuador, and now – finally – Pakistan.

Since 2010, Greenberg has helped lead the d.school, an interdisciplinary institute at Stanford University that nurtures innovators and spreads design thinking. Previously, she worked in the innovation practice of Monitor Group in the US and India and advised multinational companies on developing innovation capabilities. Her background includes developing new products and services in a number of emerging markets in Asia and Africa.

The lecture was held at the Tariq Rafi Lecture Theatre at Habib University. Habib University is a liberal arts & sciences university, offering interdisciplinary education in science, engineering, arts, humanities and social sciences. It was established in Karachi under the patronage of the House of Habib. Committed to providing the highest standards of excellence in higher education and envisioned to be an intellectual nexus for the region, Habib University will develop the next generation of scholars who will positively impact society. Emirates to add a third daily flight to Riyadh

Karachi – December 09, 2015 – Emirates will boost its services to Riyadh with the addition of a third daily flight to the Saudi capital from 15 December 2015. The addition of the third daily service will take the total number of weekly Emirates flights serving Riyadh to 21.

Sheikh Majid Al Mualla, Divisional Senior Vice President Commercial Operations, Centre said: “Emirates’ expanded schedule to Riyadh will offer more seamless connections for our customers but most importantly will broaden travel options for business travellers and families alike who are looking to visit Dubai. There are clear traffic flows between Riyadh and Dubai therefore boosting our services and increasing our capacity with a third flight makes business sense.”

So far this year, over 450,000 passengers have travelled on the Dubai-Riyadh service.

In 2014, Saudi Arabian visitors to Dubai topped more than 1.5 million, according to a Deloitte Quarterly Middle East Hotel Market Insight Report. Dubai continues to be an attractive destination for Saudi visitors, offering them both luxury and value with an extensive array of leisure and family activities to suit every taste, in addition to hotels for all budgets. As a business hub, Dubai has become a springboard to emerging eastbound markets and Africa and is an ideal destination for doing business. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the UAE’s largest trading partner in the region, with non-oil trade reaching an estimated AED 256 billion in the first quarter of 2014, according to Saudi Arabian Federal Customs Authority data.

The third flight will be serviced by the A330-200 in a combination of a three class and two-class configuration. Emirates flight EK815 departs Dubai at 0125hrs and arrives in Riyadh at 0225hrs. The return flight, EK816 departs Riyadh at 0345hrs and arrives in Dubai at 0645hrs.

All cabins are equipped with Emirates’ award-winning ice entertainment system with over 700 channels to choose from, including movies, television programmes, games, audio books and music from across the world.

As with all Emirates flights, passengers on the Riyadh service will enjoy the extra generous Emirates baggage allowance of 30kg in Economy Class, 40 kg in Business Class and 50kg in First Class.

Along with Riyadh, Emirates operates to Jeddah, Dammam and Medinah Al Munawarah in Saudi Arabia. Emirates currently serves Saudi Arabia with 59 flights a week. This will increase to 70 flights a week from 15 December with the additional services to Jeddah and Riyadh.

Ufone & Indus Hospital collaborate for Blood donation

Karachi, December 10, 2015: Ufone in collaboration with the Indus Hospital held a blood donation drive at its regional office and call centre located in Karachi to spread awareness and promote voluntary blood donation culture in Pakistan. The blood donation drive was led by members of Ufone Volunteer Group (UVG).

Under the collaboration, blood donors got free medical checkups and 9 free of cost blood tests were also administered for them; including Hepatitis B (2 tests), Hepatitis C, HIV (2 tests), syphilis, Malaria, Blood Group and Hemoglobin.

Speaking about the significance of this blood donation drive, Mr. Amir Pasha, Head of PR & CSR Ufone said, “Blood cannot be manufactured, therefore, the need to collect and provide blood at the time of need is of crucial importance. Corporate volunteerism being an integral part of Ufone’s CSR activities, we realize the importance of people’s welfare thus a blood donation drive was held to mobilize the nation towards 100% voluntary blood donation.”

Regarding the initiative, Dr. Saba Jamal at the Indus hospital said, “Indus hospital has the vision to provide the safest possible blood, meeting all international standards, to all segments of society without any discrimination. We have accentuated this vision by partnering and initiating a blood donation drive with Ufone.”

He added, “Ufone employees have indeed played their role as responsible citizens by actively participating in today’s activity, helping us achieving the vision of voluntary blood donation nationwide.”

It is pertinent to mention here that The Indus Hospital Blood Center is the first centralized blood bank of Pakistan; carrying out 456 blood drives till date along with 194 partners, with an overwhelming response, as 28000 voluntary donors participated.
