With LG 360 CAM and Google Street View, Share and Enjoy 360-Degree Content with Ease

Tuesday, March 29th, 2016

Karachi, March 28, 2016: With the announcement of the LG 360 CAM at Mobile World Congress last week, LG Electronics (LG) expects to see an increase in interest in creating and sharing 360-degree visual content using mobile devices. With the introduction of affordable, consumer-friendly devices such as the upcoming LG 360 CAM and the G5 smartphone, creating and sharing 360-degree content will be as easy as pressing a button.

While many phones and point-and-shoot cameras have a panorama mode, 360-degree spherical images and videos take visuals even further by including everything in the scene, including the ground and the sky. With its compact, portable size and high-resolution images, the LG 360 CAM is one of the first imaging devices to take advantage of the growing trend of 360-degree content creation. In fact, this is the first camera from a smartphone manufacturer to be optimized for Google Street View with its support for the Google-backed Open Spherical Camera (OSC) API.

With the free Google Street View app installed on their iOS or Android smartphones, LG 360 CAM owners will be able to easily capture, upload and share their 360-degree content directly from their phones without having to convert or process their files into the appropriate format, a time-consuming process. LG 360 CAM features three embedded microphones and supports 5.1 channel surround sound recording. It is equipped with an internal battery with a capacity of 1,200mAh allowing for up to 70 minutes of video recording. With its microSD card slot, the camera can be extended to a maximum of 2TB.

“This announcement of the LG 360 CAM means a lot to over 500 million Street View users and all who loves to create and share 360-degree contents,” said Charles Armstrong, Product Manager of Google Street View. “With its capability to create 16MP images, the LG 360 CAM will be the most preferable choice for anyone to join in the fun of 360-degree content.”

“Until recently, creating 360-degree images and videos required expensive and heavy equipment out of the reach of everyday consumers,” said Kim Hong-joo Kim, Vice President and Head of product planning at LG Mobile Communications Company. “LG 360 CAM will enable users to create their own content easily and share them freely in a way that nurtures a new mobile ecosystem within the LG Playground.”

Jubilee Life collaborates with Charter for Compassion Pakistan for “Collaborative Libraries”

Monday, March 7th, 2016

Karachi, March 07, 2016 -Jubilee Life, Pakistan’sleading life insurance provider, in collaboration with Charter for Compassion has launched a new project called, “Collaborative Libraries”. This was announced at the project signing ceremony held recently at the Head Office of Jubilee Life.

01 (NXPowerLite)

The purpose of this project is to inculcate the habit of reading in our future generations by developing libraries in the less affluent areas of Karachi. With the advent of technology and e-books, reading in libraries is becoming extinct. More so, the lack of libraries in our country is depriving children today from the gratifying and fulfilling experience of reading books. Through the project, 15 libraries were established in schools within Korangi, Lyari, and Shireen Jinnah Colony impacting over 5,000 students.

On this occasion Javed Ahmed, CEO and MD, Jubilee Life said, “For a child to develop a broader imagination it is vital that they are exposed to various life lessons through books. I am a reader myself, and the pleasure of reading a hard-bind in a place surrounded by books cannot be explained in words. We are delighted to be a part of such an initiative that will not only enhance love for reading but will also improve literacy in the less affluent areas.”

President of Charter for Compassion Pakistan (CfC), Mr. Amin Hashwani, said, “These libraries willnot only inculcate reading habits, at an early age, but also bring children together from different segments of the society for a peaceful and compassionate Karachi.”

Collaborative Libraries, supported by Jubilee Life Insurance, draws a connection between the privileged schools by collecting books from their students which will be used to develop libraries in selected schools in the less affluent areas of Karachi. Also, to augment the love for reading, several engaging activities will be undertaken such as dramatic-reading sessions in schools, shelve-a-book drive, book mark competitions, poetry competitions and many other initiatives throughout the year.

CfC was launched in February 2011 as a local initiative inspired by the Charter for Compassion International, a global program by a multi-faith, multi-national council of thinkers and leaders led by Karen Armstrong, a celebrated author. CfC aims to create a vibrant, peaceful, and compassionate society through the creation of innovative programs, education, and training on compassionate thought and action.

Jubilee Insurance is a global brand of Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED) that offers diverse insurance solutions (life, health and general) in the Asian and East African markets. Jubilee Life in Pakistan offers uniquely designed range of life and health insurance plans, catering to various customer segments and needs. Tuesday, March 8th, 2016

Karachi, March 08, 2016: e2e SCM recently commenced a tree plantation drive as an extension of the ‘Give Green’ campaign in The Citizens Foundation (TCF) Schools, with the purpose of instilling the importance of tree plantation in children for a green environment. This initiative was launched at the TCF Garden West Secondary School, Karachi where students participated with great zeal and zest. With participation from other like-minded organizations this project can further grow on a national level.

E. E2E Photo Caption

This idea is part of the second phase of the ‘Give Green’ Campaign. It aims at creating awareness in the society regarding the utmost need of developing a sustainable environment for the coming generations. This tree plantation drive will focus on Karachi based TCF schools after which it will expand further to other locations. The guest speaker, a renowned horticulturist, Mr. Tofiq Pasha Mooraj highlighted the significance of trees and their impact on the eco-system, meanwhile, Founder and CEO e2e, Mr. Abid Butt, and VP – Inputs TCF, Mr. Zia Abbas appreciated the keen interest shown by the school children.

“Having trees is the primitive need of the society and an important part of the eco system, the lack of which is triggering undeniably adverse environmental impacts, Karachi’s heat wave last year being one of them,” said Mr. Abid, “We therefore openly invite the logistics companies to collaborate for ‘Give Green’ sustainable development of Pakistan and encourage other stakeholders to form a consortium for this cause. Together we can increase the aim of planting 60,000 trees to even 6 million as we foresee a massive potential towards bringing this positive change.”

Mr. Zia expressed his gratitude at TCF being selected for this notable cause. “We are very grateful to e2e for keeping our schools the focus of their tree plantation drive. Teaching kids the importance of tree plantation will help them grow up to be citizens who care for the environment. We hope that other schools will follow suit and inculcate this important habit among young children.” Said Mr. Zia

Some associated activities conducted as part of the Give Green campaign comprised of a drawing competition which received a wonderful response from the students. Winners were selected and awarded with trophies and medals along with all participants receiving certificates. A For-Profit Social Enterprise, Team Muhafiz as a sign of their goodwill gesture collaborated on the event by donating comics which revolve around the concept creating awareness regarding deforestation.

The first phase of ‘Give Green’ took place on the World Environment Day, on June 05, 2015, and acquired massive participation given the enthusiasm of volunteers. The plantation drive was conducted in Defense Phase 7, Karachi in collaboration with Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) and Charter for Compassion. According to e2e’s Vision 2020, the company plans to plant 60,000 trees by 2020 with the aim to off-setting carbon emissions in the country.

According to e2e, the idea is beyond tree plantation and aimed at the greater cause of making the environment friendly and worth living in while having a decent number of tree planted would bear fruits for decades to come.

LG and Intel Develop and Pilot 5G Telematics Technology for Next Generation Cars

Wednesday, March 9th, 2016

Karachi, March 08, 2016: LG Electronics (LG) and Intel announced that they are collaborating to develop and pilot 5G-based telematics technology, the next generation of wireless technology for cars. LG and Intel will utilize research and development expertise and leadership from both companies with the intent to be first to market with 5G ready solutions. LG is the first company to supply telematics products that rely on LTE connectivity instead of older 2G or 3G based networks.

LGE_INTEL_00-[20160222161452236]

5G telematics delivers data more than 33 times faster than 4G LTE with latency expected to drop to about one tenth of current speeds. Software can be updated at high speeds through OTA (Over the Air) networks while videos and other multimedia content will see faster downloads through the car’s infotainment systems.

Powered by V2X (Vehicle to Everything) technology, 5G’s dramatically reduced latency is possible even when cars are travelling at high speeds. Communication from vehicle to vehicle, vehicle to infrastructure or vehicle to pedestrian through 5G can help prevent accidents for a safer driving experience.

By bringing together its potent Mobile Communications technology with the insight of its Vehicle Components division, LG has made significant strides to solidify its telematics leadership in the smart car industry. LG is the exclusive supplier of vehicle telematics for GM’s 4G LTE OnStar telematics system which has helped LG take the top position in automotive telematics with a market share of 30.1 percent in 2013, 30.3 percent in 2014 and 29.9 percent in 2015, according to Strategy Analytics.

“By working closely with Intel we hope to build upon our leadership with LG’s next generation of 5G telematics products,” said Kim Jin-yong, President of LG Electronics’ Vehicle Components In-Vehicle Infotainment Business Unit.

“LG is an important vehicle component supplier for the joint research and development of 5G telematics”, said Aicha Evans, corporate vice president and general manager of the Intel Communication and Devices Group. “We believe the combination of LG connectivity leadership and Intel expertise in connected cars, sensor fusion and distributed deep learning will deliver innovative 5G technology for the car.”

PPAF Takes SDGs to the Field in Balochistan

Monday, March 28th, 2016

Islamabad, 28 March, 2016: The Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund conducted the fourth provincial workshop on, ‘Taking SDGs to the Field’, in Quetta. The objective of the workshop was to emphasize the importance of Sustainable Development Goal 5 around achieving gender equality and empowering all women. This platform allowed participants to discuss ways PPAF and its partners could take forward SDG Goal 5 and to reach an agreement with the field staff to take forward the commitments on inclusion and equity. Field staff and senior management from partner organizations in Balochistan implementing PPAF Program for Poverty Reduction funded by the Italian Development Cooperation, Government of Italy participated in the workshop.

1

Mr. Meer Mohammed Tareen, Legal Advisor to the speaker of the provincial assembly represented the Balochistan Government and gave the keynote address. He applauded PPAF for creating a platform to discuss the low gender indicators and noted that Balochistan is the first province to have a female speaker in a provincial assembly. Furthermore, since. Ms. Raheela Durrani has assumed responsibility as the speaker, an active dialogue regarding gender empowerment has been present within the assembly. He added that Balochistan was desperate for funding to develop infrastructure, strengthen education programs and improve accessibility to quality health workers and facilities. He said that with the development of infrastructure projects, social mobilization and social awareness, the women of Balochistan will be better empowered. Therefore PPAF and its partners should increase social mobilization which will lead to social awareness of basic rights at the grassroots thus building a social pressure leading to accountability of the government officials and better implementation of government strategies and policies.  Finally, Mr. Tareen said that the civil society needs to represent women’s issues, and in order to do that, women need to voice their concerns and challenges.

Mr. Nadir Gul of the Balochistan Rural Support Program highlighted that natural resource degradation has a direct correlation with the social and economic development of communities which hampered attainment of the MDGs. He mentioned that a collaboration of economic, environment and social integration will be a more effective strategy to improve policies that improve gender empowerment. In addition, Mr. Gul stressed that women are the biggest victims of the water crisis in Balochistan. The expectation from society and the home is for women to gather water for the household, resulting in girls being marked absent from schools. He stressed that social mobilization is an effective tool to help governance and that female economic independence leads to overall empowerment of women and enhances their ability to lead in society and be involved in decision making processes at home.

Mr. Qaiser Jamali, provincial coordinator, UNESCO, quoted ex Chief Minister Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch who outlined that there were 600 ghost schools with 200,000 ghost students. Civil society and Government need to work together to target teacher accountability. He emphasized that out of 12,500 schools in the Province, only 3400 cater to girls. Therefore, he proposed that a joint strategy be developed and implemented that decentralized powers to the district level, created a merit based system for teacher selection, and developed a monitoring system for the operation and attendance of teachers and students.

Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund is playing a leading role to ensure equity, inclusion and women’s participation within the organization and amongst the partner organizations. PPAF is committed to bringing empowerment and improving representation of women, poor, youth, minorities, transsexual, migrants, and highly vulnerable individuals or with special needs, insecure and/or any other marginalized community through a transformative framework.

As part of its Gender Action Plan 2015, PPAF held the first national level retreat of social mobilizers/organizers, and credit officers of its POs, following which provincial workshops are being conducted across Pakistan. Social mobilizers are a bridge between PPAF and the communities and bring about a sustainable change in terms of access to resources, behaviour as well as economic condition.  However, bringing about this transformation is not easy, especially, for the women social mobilizers.
