LG Stylus 2 First Smartphone to Support Dab+

Monday, April 11th, 2016

Karachi, April 11, 2016: LG Electronics (LG) today unveiled the world’s first smartphone to feature DAB+, the de facto standard for digital radio broadcasting. LG introduced its newest smartphone at Radiodays Europe 2016 in Paris, the world’s largest radio conference. Consumers in Australia, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway and the United Kingdom will be the first to receive the LG Stylus 2 with DAB+.

LG Stylus2 DAB plus

As the world’s first smartphone with DAB+, the LG Stylus 2 features a DAB+ chipset and an exclusive app that allows customers to enjoy digital radio broadcasts out of the box. A technical interface also enables broadcasters to develop their own tailored apps in which internet services complement broadcasted radio.

Users will be able to access more radio channels with DAB+ than traditional FM. Unlike regular radio apps that stream large amounts of data, DAB+ radio provides excellent audio quality for free, as it uses no data.

DAB+ is expected to replace FM analog radio and already reaches over 500 million people in 40 countries around the world. LG collaborated with the International DMB Advancement Group (IDAG) to include DAB+ technology in the new LG Stylus 2.

“We are taking a proactive approach towards the fast-paced technological shift to digital broadcasting with DAB+ to deliver a new paradigm of experiences through the smartphone,” said Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “With its large 5.7-inch screen, 1 watt speaker and 3,000mAh removable battery, the LG Stylus 2 is the perfect device to enjoy rich, multimedia content.”

“We are proud to help introduce a game-changing smartphone with an innovative company like LG. The combination of broadcasting and the internet opens up a vast array of possibilities for the future,” said Gunnar Garfors, president of IDAG. “Consumers get new functionalities and media companies reach new audiences with more broadcasted free-to-air radio.”

LG Leads Top-Tier Awards Count from Global Design Authority Red Dot

Wednesday, April 27th, 2016

Karachi, April 27, 2016: LG Electronics (LG) has emerged as the clear winner in this year’s Red Dot Awards for design excellence. LG’s impressive 32 honors include two Best of the Best awards and 30 Red Dot Awards. As a recipient of double Best of the Best awards in the same year, this recognition from Red Dot confirms LG’s place at the vanguard of both technology and design leadership.

LG win 32 awards

Among the products honored as setting the gold standard in design with Red Dot’s prestigious Best of the Best award were LG Electronics’ 4K OLED TV (model 65E6) and Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator (model GA- B489SADN/GA-B489TADN), helping to give LG a diverse portfolio of award winning products unmatched by any other company.

Red Dot is widely seen as one-third of the world’s top design committees, along with the iF Design Awards and IDEA (International Design Excellence Awards). This year, out of a total 5,214 products submitted from around the world, only approximately 70 products were designated Best of the Best for their innovation and design leadership.

The LG 4K OLED TV boasts a slick appearance and chic charms while maintaining the distinctive design of LG’s premium OLED televisions. Complete with the company’s unique Picture-on-Glass concept, the LG 4K OLED TV exudes an aura of class and sophistication while bridging the gap between modern trends and timeless style. Equal parts television and modern art masterpiece, the polished LG 4K OLED TV is approachable from any angle, effortlessly blending into any environment.

LG’s emphasis on forward-thinking design can also be clearly seen in its sophisticated Bottom Freezer Refrigerator. Unlike other models that implement unwieldy bar handles that project outward from the refrigerator, the Bottom Freezer Refrigerator features an innovative Easy Open Handle that is tucked away at the bottom of the door, making it almost completely imperceptible. The refrigerator’s stylish trim is also equipped with refined mood lighting, making the doors easy to open at all hours of the day.

In addition to its two Best of the Best awards, LG received 30 additional honors from the judges at Red Dot. The LG SIGNATURE Refrigerator was honored for its Knock-on Door-in-Door™ and Auto Door Open features while the LG SIGNATURE Washer was recognized for its double load capability as well as its touch-enabled user interface in its glass door. Judges were also impressed by the LG SIGNATURE Air Purifier with its transparent window that allows users to watch the air purifying process at work. The LG SIGNATURE OLED TV was also honored, with judges citing its ultra-thin 2.57 mm glass panel and other luxurious elements. The LG G5 smartphone, featuring a sleek, metal uni-body with a Slide-out Battery and Modular Type design, also received honors along with three LG “Friends” (360 VR, 360 CAM, TONE Platinum), a collection of companion devices.

“We are extremely honored to receive these prestigious awards for our efforts to drive design innovation in consumer electronics and appliances,” said Noh Chang-ho, head of LG Electronics’ corporate design center. “LG is committed to design excellence and these awards are affirmation that we are on the right track.”

BASF announces new Lumina® Royal and Cinquasia® pigments at the 2016 American Coatings Show

Wednesday, April 13th, 2016

Global launch of three pigments offering enhanced styling and formulation options

Karachi, Wednesday, April 13, 2016 — BASF will unveil three new globally available pigments during the 2016 American Coatings Show (ACS) at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis from April 12-14.

The new Lumina® Royal Dragon Gold EH 0908 is a highly chromatic green gold interference mica pigment that offers the highest lightness and strongest sparkle in styling for golds and greens. It extends the color space potential of high chroma shades for architectural, print packaging, plastics, consumer electronics, kitchen and major appliances, sporting goods, cosmetic and personal care packaging, wall coverings and other specialty applications.

“The addition of Dragon Gold to the Lumina® Royal line of pigments helps designers achieve highly chromatic colors previously unobtainable,” said Andre Bendo, technical account manager, BASF. “Our customers will be able to formulate new looks of green gold hues with exceptional chromaticity and brilliance.”

Lumina® Royal Dragon Gold joins five previously launched highly chromatic Lumina Royal pigments including Blue, Aqua, Indigo, Copper and Magenta that are being widely adopted.

BASF is also launching two new quinacridone-based Cinquasia® Magenta pigments targeted for the automotive, refinish and high end industrial markets. Cinquasia® Uniflow Magenta EH 4555 is a highly chromatic, transparent, blue side Pigment Red 202 with 20+ percent higher tint strength than existing pigments. Cinquasia® Uniflow Magenta EH 4505 is an even more highly chromatic, yellow side transparent magenta. These next generation pigments allow formulators to achieve highly saturated and chromatic red, violet and blue shades. In addition, both pigments exhibit excellent flow behavior that allow for higher pigment loads in most solvent-borne and water-borne paint systems.

“Our Cinquasia® range already offers the broadest selection of quinacridone magenta pigments in the market,” said Claudia Sierakowski, senior industry manager pigments, automotive, BASF. “By developing the more blue and yellow side highly chromatic and transparent magenta quinacridones, BASF has once again extended the achievable color space for our formulating customers.”

In addition to new pigment launches, Wally Kesler, an industrial coatings technical specialist for BASF, will explain how pigments can be used to manage heat build-up in exposed coated surfaces as he presents Modeling of Total Solar Reflectance as a Formulation Tool from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12 during the American Coatings Conference, offered in conjunction with the ACS. The presentation will focus on the virtual tools capable of predicting Total Solar Reflectance (and resulting temperatures) of coatings which incorporate near IR reflecting pigments through use of BASF’s proprietary modeling software.

Visitors to the 2016 ACS can explore BASF’s innovative products on display at booth #1431 or by visiting  basf.us/acs2016.

RB’s Pilot Project promises huge breakthrough in reducing the incidence of diarrhoea

Tuesday, April 12th, 2016

Karachi, April 12, 2016: Reckitt Benckiser Pakistan (RB), manufacturers of Dettol, has announced its long-term commitment to fighting diarrhoea and improving health and hygiene practices in Pakistan during a press briefing held at Dhori village in Sargodha district. The announcement was made by Patricia O’Hayer, Global Head of External Communications and Affairs during her visit to Pakistan to evaluate the progress of the pilot project. The project is aimed at reducing the incidence of diarrhoea and improving health, hygiene and sanitation practices of the low-income households. “RB’s commitment to Pakistan involves initiating and sustaining such projects that can improve health and hygiene within the country. With this project RB aims to reduce the incidence of diarrhoea, particularly among children, and prevent child deaths due from diseases such as diarrhoea” she said. It is to be noted that diarrhea is the second leading cause of death from a preventable disease for children under 5 years of age. Pakistani children suffer from 25 million cases of diarrhea every year, with53,300 child deaths due to diarrhea related causes annually.

E. RB Event Picture

The campaign’s pilot, “Sehatmand Gharanay, Khushhal Pakistan”, was conducted in collaboration with Plan International, an NGO that already hasseveral Water, Sanitation and Hygiene initiatives across Punjab and many others all over Pakistan. RB’s collaboration and implementation of the innovative behavior change model has shown accelerated results. RB has also been instrumental in making the idea sustainable and empowering women by introducing an inclusive business model. Women, referred to as hygienists, from within the local community are empowered to become messengers of health and hygiene to households within the village. They carry a basket of productswhich isprepared in partnership with other private companies and includes excellent quality products at highly subsidized rates. The purpose of this campaign is to improve homes and lives across Pakistan through positive behavior change and to deliver a sustainable community engagement model by empowering women to take the lead in protecting their family health.

During the discussion with media, RB Pakistan’s Chief Executive, Shahzeb Mahmood, emphasized the fact that the Company’s business is directly related to improving public health and hygiene through introducing good sanitary practices in each home. He further stated, “The phrase charity begins at home applies above all to ensuring adoption of a hygienic lifestyle by all citizens. This is largely missing in low-income households. This is a leading cause of diseases such as diarrhoea which further results in high infant mortality. RB has therefore launched this campaign to bring about sustainable behaviour change through education and direct community involvement in improving health, hygiene and sanitation practices of these low-income households. We already have the government’s endorsement and look forward to the government’s continued support to have a far reaching impact across Pakistan.”
