Bright and Portable, LG’s New Laser Projector is Designed for Home Cinema Enthusiasts

Karachi, January 06, 2017 — At CES 2017 next month, LG Electronics (LG) will introduce a new laser projector, the LG ProBeam, designed to deliver the ideal home cinema viewing experience. The LG ProBeam will go beyond the demands of consumers who seek not only high performance but also the versatility to go outside the comforts of one’s living room to enjoy movies and TV programs anytime, anywhere.

The LG ProBeam, model HF80J, is ideal for the home cinema experience because it is equipped with an advanced laser engine that produces up to 2,000 lumens of brightness, enabling viewers to enjoy video content even in a bright room. The LG ProBeam has a slim, sleek design which makes it more portable thanks to its innovative I-shaped laser engine. Employing a compact standing-type design, LG developed the 2.1kg (4.6 pounds) ProBeam as the industry’s lightest Full HD laser projector in the brightness range of 2,000 lumens. In addition, the ProBeam’s classic look allows it to blend in with any interior decor.

LG, Dolby Laboratories Unveil New Dolby Vision-Capable 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray Player at CES 2017

Karachi / LAS VEGAS, January 10 , 2017 ― LG Electronics (LG) and Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE: DLB) today announced the LG UP970 Ultra HD Blu-ray player, LG’s first 4K Blu-ray player which will support Dolby Vision™ high-dynamic-range (HDR) imaging.*

LG’s UP970 Ultra HD Blu-ray player delivers a more immersive and vivid viewing experience than ever before. Leveraging the HDR technology that powers Dolby’s most advanced cinemas around the world, Dolby Vision transforms the TV experience in the home by delivering greater brightness and contrast, as well as a fuller palette of rich colors. Dolby’s deep expertise in bringing advanced technologies from the cinema to the home has led to distinct features that enable Dolby Vision to deliver extraordinary viewing experiences to home consumers. Dolby Vision capability for the UP970 will be available through a software update scheduled for later this year. The UP970 also offers enhanced dual format HDR compatibility with support for the generic HDR format (HDR10), giving consumers the peace of mind that they will have access to the most HDR content possible.

The LG UP970 offers consumers access to more of what they want to watch in HDR, enhanced further by a robust portfolio of movies and episodic content in Dolby Vision. From content creation to distribution and playback, Dolby Vision is an end-to-end solution supported by leading Hollywood directors, major studios and distributors and TV OEMs worldwide. On-demand streaming services feature a strong lineup of content featured in Dolby Vision with more than 80 studio titles available today. Additionally, more than 100 hours of original content is available in Dolby Vision across leading OTT providers and soon consumers globally will have access to Dolby Vision titles on Ultra HD Blu-ray disc, with anticipated availability in early 2017.

The LG UP970 also features additional picture quality technologies that further enhance the viewing experience for consumers. The LG UP970 includes support for 10-bit color and Rec. ITU-R BT.2020 color gamut, as well as playback of high-efficiency video coding (HEVC). It’s also compatible with a variety of leading sound formats, including Dolby True HD, Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD Master Audio, for a truly cinematic audio and video experience.

The UP970 has two HDMI ports, an HDMI 2.0a port for Ultra HD video output and an HDMI 1.4 for audio output that can connect with hi-fi devices, such as AVRs and sound bars, to enhance sound output quality. With Ethernet and Wi-Fi connections, users can easily stream their favorite online content via Netflix and YouTube, while the USB port allows for playback of movies, pictures and music.

PPAF hosts Chitral Roundtable

Islamabad: January 11, 2017 The Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) in collaboration with the Federal, Provincial and District Governments of Chitral, hosted a roundtable, ‘Devising our own Destiny: A Model for Collaborative Partnership for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth in Chitral’. The participants included representatives from all three tiers of the government, the donor community, foreign missions, civil society organizations and the communities from Chitral.

Chitral today is at a cross-roads and has the opportunity to develop a growth trajectory which is relevant and inclusive of its people and their potential. The joint stakeholder roundtable in Islamabad is the first step to invite the perspective of the key stakeholders in forging the growth strategy and ensuring that the people of Chitral are an important player devising their own future.

Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Reform, said in his key note address, “Chitral as a border district has strategic importance for us and its unique culture, history and social diversity makes it pivotally important for us that Chitral be preserved and promoted. It is wonderful to see such a diverse group of stakeholders come together to commit to the sustainable development of Chitral. We must link Chitral to the tremendous trade and economic opportunities that will arise from the opening of the Lowari Tunnel and the CPEC projects.”

He added, “Chitral District is particularly vulnerable to natural disasters with the frequency of such disasters increasing every few years. The organizations gathered here are critically important in helping mitigate the effects of climate change and build disaster resilient communities and structures. It will take the full support, technical assistance and resources of all the stakeholders present here to ensure that Chitral is protected from the effects of climate change and natural disasters. The preservation and promotion of the unique cultural heritage of the region and sustainable planned economic growth that does not damage the fragile social balance of Chitral is also a concern.”

Qazi Azmat Isa, CEO of PPAF, said in his closing remarks, “PPAF has invested in the social capital in Chitral for 15 years and now we are convening all the stakeholders to create a unique model of sustainable and inclusive development which will make Chitral a model district in KP. We are grateful to all the participants who have taken time out of their busy schedules to be here and particularly the people from Chitral who braved the inclement weather and blocked roads to be part of this roundtable.”

He added, “Chitral has been cut off from the mainstream because of the location throughout the year and the climate in winters. We are at a juncture in time when the Lowari Tunnel and the CPEC routes will make travel to and from Chitral much easier and therefore much more frequent. We can all come together to leverage this change in circumstances while ensuring that the development in Chitral is ecologically and culturally sustainable. The key to this is going to be a transparent governance structure for the utilization of funds which will be through the Chitral Development Forum designed to coordinate, steer, guide and monitor the process of the development of the district.”

Mr. Haji Maghfirat Shah, District Nazim Chitral gave a development overview of Chitral, Mr. Shahzada Iftikhar Uddin, MNA Chitral presented the challenges facing the district while Mr. Inayat Ullah Khan, Sr. Minister for Elections & Rural Development KPK shared the opportunities in Chitral.

H.E. Stefano Pontecorvo, Italian Ambassador to Pakistan spoke about the Italian commitment to Pakistan and development in Chitral. He said he believes that Pakistan will be one of the most leading countries in the next 10 years.

H.E. Thomas Drew, British High Commissioner to Pakistan spoke about his many visits to Chitral which he saw as a haven of peace, diversity and natural beauty. He fully supported the stakeholder commitment to sustainable development in Chitral.

A Chitral Declaration to pledge their commitment to the strong, inclusive, sustainable innovative and resilient economic growth of the district was signed by Haji Maghfirat Shah, District Nazim of Chitral and Qazi Azmat Isa. Ms. Fozia Bibi, MPA CHitral, presented the declaration to the participants. PPAF will subsequently hold a follow-up conference in Chitral with the communities.

A group of Chitrali students and members of the Kalasha community presented their traditional folk songs. Gulnaz, the runner up in masterchef Pakistan, created traditional cuisine for the participants to taste. Stalls displaying traditional jewellery, woodwork, textile art, dry fruits and shu weaving were also present.

HPH Pakistan sets new vessel handling record

Karachi, January 20, 2017 – Hutchison Ports Pakistan, the country’s first deep-water container terminal, started test operations on 9th December 2016.

In less than two months, Hutchison Ports Pakistan set a new productivity record for Karachi with the handling of 1,666 moves in just under 17 hours on the 6,200 TEU vessel MSC Lucy which called at the terminal on 17 January 2017. During her stay at the brand new facility, the Terminal achieved a Vessel Operating Rate (VOR) of 129 container moves per hour, a Berth Productivity Rate (BPR) of 102 container moves per hour and a Gross Crane Rate (GCR) of 27.8 container moves per hour. During the call, a total of 2,634 TEUs were handled.

The previous highest recorded VOR of 121 container moves per hour in Karachi was set by Hutchison Ports KICT in 2013.

LG Smart InstaView Refrigerator Features Voice Control, WebOS and Remote Viewing Capabilities

Karachi: January 23, 2017 ― LG Electronics (LG) has introduced a new kind of refrigerator, called Smart InstaView™ that’s embedded with an array of convenient features provided by Amazon’s Alexa Voice Service and powered by LG’s own webOS smart platform.

Unveiled at CES 2017, LG’s new flagship Door-in-Door refrigerator features a 29-inch touch LCD display, which, thanks to its InstaView feature, instantly turns transparent with just two knocks of the screen and allows users to look inside the refrigerator without opening the door. Now with webOS, consumers can also explore a host of WiFi-enabled features directly on the refrigerator, creating a streamlined and powerful food management system all housed directly on the front of the fridge door.

Amazon’s Alexa Voice Service gives users access to an intelligent personal assistant that, in addition to searching recipes, can play music, place Prime-eligible orders from Amazon.com including groceries, add items to a shopping list and more. With over 6,000 skills available, Alexa can also control one’s smart home, request car service, set kitchen timers and check the weather – all hands-free by just using your voice. With Alexa, daily tasks in the kitchen – such as cooking or planning for the day – turn into a dynamic, entertaining experience.

In addition to the services provided by Amazon, the LG Smart InstaView refrigerator offers a variety of other convenience-enhancing features. The Smart Tag menu allows users to add stickers and tags on the screen to indicate which foods are stored as well as the ability to input the expiration date of each item, so the refrigerator can issue reminders when foods near expiration. Family members can set up memos for each other and create to-do lists that display on the screen. To check inside the refrigerator remotely, a 2.0 megapixel panoramic super-wide-lens camera captures images of the interior from a variety of different angles which are accessible via smartphone, a must-have feature for anyone who would like to see what’s at home while grocery shopping.
