The license agreement follows months of negotiations over GE Appliances’ use of LG’s patented technologies. The agreement underscores the value of LG’s patent portfolio and the company’s leadership in home appliances with more than 400 patents related to door-ice making technology.

LG’s patented door-ice making technology allows for slim and sleek profile designs that maximize usable space inside the refrigerator. This door-ice making technology takes up less room than a conventional refrigerator ice maker and frees up more space for food storage in the refrigeration compartment.

“Our desire to deliver more convenience and functionality to customers drives us to develop innovative new core technologies such as our door-ice making inventions,” said Song Dae-hyun, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “At the same time, as seen in this major patent licensing agreement, LG is committed to actively protecting our intellectual property.”

COCA-COLA PARTNERS WITH CERB TO INITIATE A DIALOGUE ON CORPORATE WATER POLICY

Friday, August 2nd, 2019

Centre of Excellence in Responsible Business (CERB) to lead a dialogue on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal # 6 (SDG 6) – Clean Water & Sanitation, with focus on water efficiency – internal and external – as an integral part of corporate water policy. Pakistan is the third most affected country in the world by an acute water shortage, as ranked in an IMF study, and urgent measures are needed to mitigate the impending crisis of Pakistan having no water by year 2025, according to another study. The said dialogue was held in the form of a workshop with more than 30 participants from diverse backgrounds, representing academia, media, industry, corporate sector and the non-profit sector. The purpose of the interactive workshop was to draw attention to the need for everyone to work towards meeting SDG 6 targets, and help companies from various sectors identify the water risks in their supply chain, and to design and update their corporate water strategy.

The workshop started off with participants understanding their personal and industrial water footprint and calculating the overall virtual water footprint.

Guest of Honor Dr. Ahsan Siddiqui, Water Scientist & Chief Convener Water Commission and Chief Guest Dr. Saeed Ahmed Mangnejo, Secretary Environment Climate Change & Coastal Development Department, Government of Sindh also shared their thoughts on the urgency of water conservation through a sustained approach across all sectors. Later, there was discussion around water accountability, setting and developing water reduction targets, and committing to SDG 6.

The Coca-Cola Company believes that the availability of freshwater is a defining issue of our times—one that poses risks to a company’s license to operate, while it also offers opportunities to make a positive impact on lives and livelihoods around the globe. Speaking about the workshop, Rizwan Khan, General Manager Coca-Cola Pakistan & Afghanistan highlighted, “Such workshops will serve the aim of helping our industry and partners figure out the areas of excessive water usage within our respective supply chains, with a long-term strategy to conserve it. Although our region is Water Positive within the Coca-Cola System by replenishing 2.75 billion liters back to the communities through 10+ projects since 2017, but a lot more needs to be done to protect our environment.”

According to a 2017 research study by PBC, 65 percent of their member companies have a corporate water policy in place; however majority of them lack a sustainable methodology in practice. “The workshop succeeded in creating more awareness around water stewardship and encouraging people to actively play their part in using water more sustainably whilst also encouraging the private sector commitment to UN’s Sustainable Development Goals”, commented Mr. Ehsan Malik, CEO, Pakistan Business Council.

The Coca-Cola Company maintains a vast Corporate Social Responsibility portfolio, focusing mainly on four areas; Women, World Without Waste, Well-being and Water. In 2007 The Coca-Cola Company announced its Water Replenishment Goal which focuses on being water neutral by the year 2020. Pakistan remains one of the 61 countries where water stewardship projects have been initiated.

Thursday, August 8th, 2019

Karachi, August 08, 2019:  Pakistan Life Saving Foundation (PALS Rescue), the country’s only privately run, near-shore drowning prevention and rescue body has so far saved 176 people from drowning this monsoon season, thus preventing immeasurable tragedies from occurring for several families.

Apart from the lives saved, this humanitarian NGO has also carried out 565,550 preventive actions amidst extremely challenging weather conditions. Accordingly, PALS Rescue with its 250 lifeguards deployed along the various beaches along Karachi’s coastline, has not just saved 176 people from drowning but has also assisted in providing basic first aid to an estimated 193 beach visitors during these past three months, besides warning beachgoers in real time on the perils of entering the sea especially during the monsoon months. The beaches being patrolled by PALS Rescue include Sandspit, Hawkes Bay, French Beach, Sunehra, Kanupp Point, and Mubarak Village.

“Having well-guarded beaches is the basic right of the citizens and we ensure that this service is provided unhindered by our NGO, free of cost,” Syed Muhammad Ahsan, Chief Administrator of Pakistan Life Saving Foundation (PALS Rescue), “Our lifeguards have to be very vigilant during the monsoon season so as to avoid any unforeseen events and there is a dire need to expand our services, something that is highly dependent on fund generation and we appeal to all citizens, to organisations and especially to the corporate sector to come forward with donations to keep the service going. A life lost due to drowning is a tragedy of incalculable proportions, destroying families’ soul forever.”

Pakistan Life Saving Foundation (PALS Rescue) was founded as an NGO in July 2004 out of the sheer necessity to commence a free service that would provide life-saving facilities at the beaches of Karachi. It now employs more than 250 highly trained lifeguards representing the fishing community while the demand for their services doubles during the monsoon season. Till date, the organisation has employed more than 1,000 lifeguards and saved over 5,500 lives, and provides protection to 8 million beach visitors on an annual basis.

Karachi / SEOUL, August 30, 2019 — LG Electronics (LG) and LUMI United Technology, an Internet of Things (IoT) and smart home solution provider, have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop an ecosystem that goes beyond basic appliance management to deliver a more complete IoT solution for the home. The partnership will focus on developing innovations using AI and advanced sensors that can detect changes in indoor environments such as humidity level, temperature and movement of doors.

LG products embedded with LUMI’s advanced Aqara sensor technology will save energy and increase convenience as well as enhance safety and comfort in the home.
